The cat is out of the bag. The project that I’ve been working on is (currently) called Feed The Meter, and it’ll let you pay for your street parking (like at a parking meter) with your smart phone.
Parking, according to Donald Shoup of UCLA, is the aspect of urban planning that gets ignored. Left mostly to guesswork, we’re either left with asphalt deserts surrounding businesses, or with too little street parking making us cruise for a spot.
Feed The Meter serves two customers. First - you; allowing you pay for your parking with one click on an app. Second - Cities; giving them the tools to dynamically change parking rates and times to best utilize available space.
You can find out more about Feed The Meter at MassChallenge. While your there, please vote for my entry. You’ll need to register (MassChallenge won’t spam you. They just want to have real humans doing the voting). Don’t forget to hover over the stars, you’ll see them turn from red to yellow allowing you to vote. Thanks!
