So done with Email

OK - I haven’t deleted my Gmail account, and I still love getting emails from you all, but I’m done thinking about integrating it into any new services.

Once upon a time, email was the way you got in touch with your customers. You spent a lot of time integrating into your web service, managing mail spools automajically and figure out how to parse replies out of a stream of X-headers. And after you do all that work, someone complains that “it doesn’t look good on Eudora” or that they’re not getting the message because their ISP thinks it’s spam.

Huge pain.

Since the Next Big Thing® assumes you already have a social network, why not use that network to notify you when the service needs something from you? And OK, if you really want email notification, you’ll get a no-reply message with a link back to the service containing the message and an easy to do something about it (i.e reply, click “accept”, etc..).

Email is getting more ignored, especially from certain target demographics. So I’m not going to worry about it.

If you disagree, send me an email =)
